      Rest in Peace, Little Friend

      WELCOME TO MY HOMEPAGE!!

Hello, my name is Poncho, a Chihuahua, born May 2, 1994.  Welcome to my website!   I am usually asleep on my master's lap -  or on a soft cushion.  It's always a nice warm, cozy spot. Even though I'm a dog, I'm a very smart little guy.  I know a several tricks like sit, shake, sit up....and what I HATE...stay!  I respond to many other commands.  I always know when I'm about to get a treat, so I automatically return to the "sit up" position.  I sometimes, well...always,  like to be a little lazy.  The picture below was taken on a bed.  They pulled the covers when they took this picture.  I was NOT very happy.

      Welcome visitor   since 11/15/2007!!!

Poncho is a short coat Chihuahua male.  I received him on June 21, 1994 as a birthday present. He is a "TRUE Friend".  He is like a tail, and follows me wherever I go when I'm at home.  He is, as you'd guess, VERY spoiled, like most dogs.  He sleeps in bed, under covers, goes anywhere he wants, gets attention by everyone, and gets treats like crazy! He has two little stuffed dogs, which are his favorite toys.  If you say "go get your dog", he'll go find it, wherever it may be and come running back to play fetch.  He loves to play fetch, keep away, too slow for me, and the normal other dog games.  He does a few tricks as well. They include: sit, stay, lie down, sit up (on back two feet), and shake.  I'm sure he could have learned a few more if we taught him more.  He LOVES to go for car rides to my Grandma's house.   I would recommend a Chihuahua to ANYONE. They are clean dogs, require little effort, little or no yards, little work, never stink, and only want to be loved.  My vote for best breed of dog goes to the Chihuahua.

Poncho had a GREAT Christmas!! He even got in the Christmas Spirit!! He took a picture in his Christmas hat and bow!

      Did You Know?

The Chihuahua is one of the only dog breed native to North America!

The Chihuahua comes in two varieties: long  and smooth coat.

          Humans hear sound vibrations up to 20,000 cycles per second;
dogs hear them up to 40,000.

      Poncho's Photo Album

If you haven't seen enough of Poncho, please be sure you go and see

      Poncho's Photo Album.

I have around 10 pictures of Poncho in his photo album.  You know, you can NEVER have enough dog pictures...so I took a lot more!  I added several new pictures to this page and even some MORE to the album on 6-10-98!

      Poncho Showing Some Age

      Poncho - 2005
This photo of Poncho was taken on March 27, 2005.  He will turn 11 years old this year.  As you can tell, he's starting to show some gray.  This is the only recent picture of Poncho that has been posted to this website since 1999.  I hope you guys enjoy the new picture!!!

      Snappy Little Poncho
This is Poncho in his Snappy Serapes.  I got this as a gift from a friend over the Internet.  Doesn't he look sharp in it?  You can get one for you Chi from their site.  If you'd like one for your Chi, click on the snappy serapes link on my Chihuahua links page!

      Poncho Dressing Up!

Here is Poncho in two Christmas gifts.  He doesn't really like the idea of clothing, especially those ears!

      Poncho's Statue

I have been SEARCHING and SEARCHING for a statue that resembled my dog.  I finally gave up and decided to get one personalized.  It is almost an exact photo copy of him!  Here is my statue!!!

      Dog Toys
Dog toys are VERY important for your dogs.  Some of the BEST toys can be found right at home.  A good home made toy is a sock. Tie a knot in the sock and your dog will LOVE it!  Another good toy is any small stuffed animal.  Try to watch out for any small parts that could come off and hurt your dog.  You'd be surprised how many "from home" toys your dog will like better than bought toys.  Dogs are not too too picky.  They just want someone to play with them!

      The Out-Side Guy

Poncho LOVES the outdoors!!  He spends many hours just basking in the sun!  He does get hot, then comes running in and flops down right in front of the air conditioner duct! What a life!

      THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
      ACCORDING TO YOUR DOG

      Author: Unknown
      1. Thou shalt feed me today more than thou didst yesterday.
      2. Thou shalt teach me with food - not big sticks and loud voices.
      3. Thou shalt walk with me every day - despite thy favorite TV program.
      4. Thou shall not buy furniture that I cannot sit on.
      5. Thou shalt not pay attention to anyone else but me -lest I feel un-wanted.
      6. Thou shalt love me to death - even when I bark all night.
      7. Thou shalt not have a Cat with ATTITUDE and CLAWS.
      8. Thou shalt not start the car until I am in it.
      9. Thou shalt not hide the food.
      10. Thou shalt obey the above without question lest I POOP on the neighbors
      lawn and promote community strife.

      Poncho Sun Bathing

This is Poncho when he is sun bathing.  Sometimes it is just way too cold to go outside.  Poncho still wants to suck up all those sun rays.  He just climbs up the couch and finds the sun, but inside and on the couch!  I think he has it just a little too good!

      Ten Commandments for a
      Responsible Pet Owner

      Author: Unknown

      1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
      2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
      3. Place your trust in me - it is crucial for my well being.
      4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I HAVE ONLY YOU!
      5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
      6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll NEVER forget it.
      7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hands, but I choose not to bite you.
      8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak.
      9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old.
      10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for ME if you are there. Remember, I love you.

Yep, Poncho's goal is to be placed on a 100 bill!!  Now wouldn't that be neat to have Poncho on instead of Ben?  I always thought Poncho was worth a million dollars, but I guess I'll have to settle on just $100!

      How Dog Got His Name

      Author: Unknown
"When God had made the Earth and Sky, the flowers and the trees, He then made all the animals, and all the birds and bees. And when His work was finished, not one was quite the same, He said, "I'll walk the Earth of mine, and give each one a name." And so He traveled land and sea, and everywhere He went, a little creature followed Him, until it's strength was spent. When all were named upon the Earth,. and in the sky and sea, the little creature said ,"Dear Lord, there's not one left for me. The Father smiled and softly said, "I've left you till the end, I've turned my name form back to front, and called you DOG, my friend." -Author Unknown"

How Dog Got His Wet Nose
      Author: Unknown

When a man named Noah started building a boat out in the middle of the desert, everybody laughed. They thought he was daft. But Noah wasn't listening to them, he was listening to the God of the Hebrews, who said to build a boat. So Noah built a boat. Noah called his boat an ark. When he finished it, he rounded up all the animals, 2 by 2 to travel on his ark. People laughed at Noah's possums and panthers and penguins. They laughed at his cheetahs and chinchillas, giraffes and gazelles and rhinoceroses and hippopotamuses. Into the ark they went, 2 by 2. Pretty soon, it started to rain. It rained and it poured and it rained some more. People stopped laughing and the ark started floating. Noah and his family and all the animals 2 by 2, rode safely on the waters. They sailed for 40 days and 40 nights. When the rains stopped, out of the ark came Noah and his family and all the animals 2 by 2. Except one. No one could find the little dog. Noah searched everywhere. He looked on the first deck. He looked on the second deck then the third deck. Finally, in the farthest corner of the lowest deck he found the little dog. The dog was shivering and standing with his nose pressed hard against the side of the boat. "Come here little dog" called Noah. "It's time to come out! Here doggie, doggie!" The little dog wouldn't move. Noah gently pulled him away. "What's this?" said Noah. "A hole in the ark! The ark might have sunk! Little dog! You kept us safe-me, my family and all of the animals, 2 by 2! With your little nose!" The little dog was proud. But mostly he was hungry. "Little dog" said Noah, as he pulled out a juicy bone, "so all the world and all the generations will know your great deed, your nose will always be cold and wet, just as it is today." That's how the dog got his cold, wet nose. The next time when you feel your dog's nose, remember the little dog who used his nose to protect Noah, his family and all of the animals, 2 by 2.
